This feels like someone knocking on my door and saying “Welcome to the neighbourhood!” even though I’ve lived here for over 15 years
died and came back wrong <- became deeply depressed at age 12 and never fully recovered
“Parent’s rights” is as much of a red flag to me as “Family values”. When you examine what people actually mean by these terms it always boils down to the usual “the family is a system of domination and many parents want even more control and violence within it”.
It is very much like when people say they support “State’s rights” (to slavery), as some in the notes have pointed out.
Sometimes it also means the parental right to keep child marriage legal.
overheard a kid angrily go “dont say that about girls” & a second kid defensively say “i was talking about taco bell”
Uninvited, the thought of you stayed too late in my head,
so I went to bed, dreaming you hard, hard, woke with your name,
like tears, soft, salt, on my lips, the sound of its bright syllables
like a charm, like a spell. You, Carol Ann Duffy

Being weird is one of those paradoxal skills in life that you develop from not trying. People who try to go out of their way to be quirky, random and unique always end up seeming like carbon copies of each other, an awkward, hollow and artificial mashup of 2012’s Omg Look A Squirrel Lol meme persona and a bad impersonation of being the Joker (the question of which Joker depends on the edginess levels desired). I get that this is usually a teenager phase but it is also not fun to do nor witness.
And I can’t hold it against teenagers that they are teenagers just trying shit out, because I remember how it felt like to be 15 and suddenly realising you can just do things with no idea what happens if you do it, and you have no choice but to try it for yourself because if you ask anybody “hey what would happen if I do this”, you just get told “you just dont. do not do that.” So you’re just operating by guesswork, fucking around and finding out, and crossing your fingers that whatever you find out isn’t life-ruining or lethal.
But anyway, being weird - truly, profoundly weird - isn’t about trying to be weird, to go out of your way to do or say weird things. The key is to halt, and focus on just being. Just existing, doing the things you were planning to do anyway, what you actually want to do, and being so focused on doing whatever you enjoy doing that in the process you forget to be normal.
Eventually you forget how to be normal. This is irreversible. But ideally at this point you’re enjoying yourself enough to not want it back anyway.
